For October–the month of kooky costumes and silly characters–it’s only right to have a party…in drama game form! (Candy not included.)
This drama game requires nothing more than a bare stage, and it’s definitely more challenging (in a good way) without costumes. It’s also a real skill builder. How to make the most of one line. How to carry on a silent conversation in the background of a scene. How to stay in character. Party on!
OCTOBER DRAMA GAME: “Time to Party!”
Directions: Choose one player to be the “Party Host.” All other players will be the “Party Guests.” Assign all the Party Guests a different character, and have them keep it a secret who they are. (List of ideas below!) Give everyone a few minutes to think of one line they could say that would make it obvious who their character is without announcing it outright. For example, a farmer might complain, “I sure do hope we see an end to this rain, or my pumpkins are gonna rot right on the vine.”
Once everyone feels ready with their one line, have all participants stand upstage and pretend to be milling about and talking in silent conversations, as if at a party. The Party Host stands center stage and says, “Well, I think everyone’s here…time to party!” One Party Guest from the group meanders over to the Party Host and says their one line. The Party Host tries to guess who they are by asking, “Are you (a farmer? a doctor? a cheerleader?)” When they have guessed correctly, the Party Host joins the group behind them and leaves the Party Guest center stage. A second Party Guest meanders up, says their one line, and the first Party Guest must guess who they are. Once they have, they join the silent party activity behind them. Play continues in this fashion until every Party Guest has had a chance to participate center stage and say their one line.
